A personal word from Dave Trout as an “I’m on Medicare" guy.
On December 5, 2022 – two days before the end of open enrollment - I made a decision to enroll in this Medicare Advantage plan – Alignment Health Plan & Heart & Disease (HMO C-SNP). I know Medicare from the outside as an agent for 24 years and hundreds of clients. And now from the inside as a Medicare beneficiary myself since 2018. As I have survived a couple of heart attacks, I thought I would always opt for a Medicare Gap Supplement plan to cover medical expenses beyond Medicare A & B.
However – as I worked with dozens and dozens of clients during this annual enrollment: I saw more and more how this plan could work for me. What I saw: My primary care doc was in-network. As this plan is a “POS" – that means I have in and out of network coverage for specialists and hospitals. My RX medications were covered. In fact, my copays and out of pocket costs were some $1,000 less than the best stand-alone Prescription Drug Plan. $2,000 for dental, vision, hearing & chiropractic - just use my Access MasterCard.
Extra dollars for over-the-counter medical items and even groceries. Even the membership to YMCA was paid for.
And icing on the cake - NO premium for either the medical or rx plan, plus NO Part B deductible .
Add everything together: Some $6,850 Savings and Extra Value.
Since this was my first time on Medicare Advantage plan, I could return to my Medigap plan within first year -Guaranteed. So after 10 months - how’s it doing? I have had NO out of pocket costs for health expenses. Including urgent care, lab work and hospital for a leg injury. The heart specialist at Chapel Hill covered 100%. The meds have come out even better than I expected. Even the out of network dermatologist was covered at 100%. And at 70½ - my first crown ever - all covered. I have new glasses including prescription shades – very cool! AND – YES, a huge savings in premium and out of pocket expenses.
So what’s the verdict?
I will enroll in this plan for 2024.
If you qualify for this plan: diagnosed with heart disease or diabetes – I urge you to consider this plan.
Only One Thing: as the gym membership is taken care of - I have no excuses not to go.
